I want to be sensitive to the people I know actually need help and for some reason feel their best avenue is to ping MutualAid (purposefully not hashtagged) on Mastodon or other social media.
The thing is that it's trivial to do that and set up a PayPal on an email address with no verification.
So what's the rate of fake vs real requests? 5%? 50%?
But with #MastodonForHarris I know the money is going through #ActBlue which requires proof of an organization including some registration with a government entity.
It's not bullet proof but it's harder to spoof than a Gmail address.
The best part being if we can get #Harris elected and give her a strong #Democratic majority in the #USCongress we can obviate the need for any MutualAid requests by passing good laws that make poverty a thing of the past.
