Microsoft does share some of the blame: this didn’t happen on macOS because Apple kicked software like this out of the kernel. (Crowdstrike had to jump through a bunch of hoops to make it work with macOS’s more secure model.) Microsoft could have done that too, but didn’t.
Still agree that the headline is vaguely misleading.
