It's sort of the same for most churches and denominations too, unfortunately, where there's plenty of people who are Christian from the "mere Christianity" perspective, but also a sizeable portion who become fixated in their denominationalism to the point of losing sight of what matters. I wish I could say this is an online problem, but having grown up Protestant, donning the fedora, and later converting to Eastern Christianity, I have been on all three sides of this and it's very real. I seldom deal with it IRL, but I'm uniquely prepared to explain things and shut up most of the goobers very quickly.
>autistic tangent:
I have a pet belief that long form text discussion is basically synthesized Asperger's. More than 50% of communication comes from tone, non-verbals, etc. and all of that is filtered out on platforms like this. A good writer can fill in a ton of those gap, and a great writer all of them. But most of us are just slightly above average with a few exceptional people. There are actual autistic people here who you'd have no idea, and they blend in with the shitposters perfectly. It's wild. At this point, I choose to assume everyone is being truthful until they show me otherwise.
