since we're really getting into the nitty gritty of this US election cycle I feel like giving my two cents on whether you should participate in elections:
voting matters
but
not nearly as much as your middle school civics class would want you to believe
basically you should vote if you have the ability to because if it truly didn't matter the Republicans wouldn't work so hard to stop you from doing it
but you should be extremely cynical about what your elected officials can give you because they are ultimately beholden to the ruling class of this country
so go vote for Joe Biden not because you expect great things from him (and you really shouldn't) but because he is the slightly less shit option the ruling class has allowed us to choose from
so you might be wondering how to make the world a better place if your vote really doesn't matter very much and the answer is get involved with activism and generally just work to make the world in your general vicinity less horrible when you aren't taking a few hours out of every few years to vote
