@ariadne Fun story about Cogent. I used them when I colo'd despite my former boss telling me they were like getting a TV that says "SOMY", then moved like a month after the contract renewed.
The datacenter was cool about this and agreed to my proposal of reducing the early termination charge for cabinet rent to one month.
Cogent was like "fuck you pay us for the rest of the year". I ended up buying a share of their stock and emailed their investor relations department to complain. I eventually got an email from the CEO's assistant reiterating "fuck you, pay us". So, I just... didn't.
They eventually had a collections agency contact me. The collections agency was not license to collect consumer debt in the state where the contract had been executed nor the one where I moved while waiting for my UK visa. In fact, attempting to collect third party debt without a license was a crime in the state where I'd had the colo.
When I pointed this out to the collections agency, they we're like "but you're a business, so it doesn't matter". Unfortunately for them, being a weird nerd who puts personal shit in a colo does not make me a business, as I clearly pointed out in emails to the sales rep when setting up the account.
Then I simply added access control lists to my mail server to prevent Cogent and the collection agency from contacting me further.
