I bought a used rear wheel for the IEB from my local bike shop for $10 the other day because the bearings were very crunchy.

I took it apart today to rebuild it and I found a bunch of metal particles in the grease. I thought the bearing balls would be trashed, but they looked pristine. It was the bearing cones that were trashed.

It's fun having a USB microscope to play with sometimes.
