Once, when I was a boy, I was stopped by the teacher as I was leaving the last class of the day, and taken to detention.

This shocked me, as I had not committed any offense worthy of detention. On the way there, I demanded to know why I was being #detained.

He told me, “There's plenty of innocent people in jail.”

He was callous, but not mistaken. #Innocence is indeed not a defense.

Thus began my lifelong fear of #police and the #law.
