It means to evade the truth. Not quite lying, but not providing the truth. </p><p>It comes from the latin "varus" which means "bowlegged," and eventually became "praevaricat" which means to "walk crookedly, deviated." </p><p>Prevaricate literally means to straddle the truth, to walk crookedly about it. </p><p>Which is amazing. Prevaricate has to be one of my favorite words. It means to evade the truth. Not quite lying, but not providing the truth.
