Nearly one in three Americans know someone who has died of a drug overdose, according to a Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health survey. For 18.9% of respondents, the person who died “was a family member or close friend.” People who knew someone who had died from an overdose were also more likely to see addiction as an “extremely or very important policy issue” regardless of political affiliation.
