You could go retro and buy outdated analog gear that no one really wants and just make that you can of it.

I record metal, so everything has to be clean and sharp as fuck. No room for noise or slop. That costs $$$$. You might not have that need.

EDM can be rough. I have ablton. There's some strange shit in there I'd never use in a metal context.
