@AgathaSorceress now I've learned the magic incantations, my XMPP group chats Just Work more or less. Which is more than I can say for several Matrix groups that I'm in, and the 1:1 chats have long worked without fail.

I think XMPP is a flawed foundation for building modern group chat on top of, but it does work for most things
