WASHINGTON (TND) — After failing to comply with a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request seeking records pertaining to the off-label use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones in children, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is facing a lawsuit seeking to compel them to hand over those records.

Nonprofit law group America First Legal (AFL) filed the suit earlier this week, accusing the FDA of "illegally concealing" the information it is seeking to obtain. AFL initiated its FOIA request in September, but according to the legal group it still remains unanswered.

The request sought records from the start of the Biden administration until the date the FOIA was processed. It targeted documents and information that included the words "child" or "minor" alongside the names of medications used off-label to aid gender transitions, such as, "Lupron," "Leuprorelin," "GnRH agonist" or "GnRH analogues."

"Puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones can lead to sterilization and a range of other serious health issues including depression, blood clots, high blood pressure, weight gain, and in some cases, suicide. For example, drugs like Lupron are used to chemically castrate sex offenders and are currently being injected into young boys to 'transition' them into girls," AFL insisted in a press release announcing the lawsuit. "To date, the FDA has refused to comply with AFL's investigative request and hidden the records. AFL is suing to compel compliance with the law, and to protect the American public's right to know."


The lawsuit comes after a former children's gender clinic case worker in St. Louis issued scathing allegations that children at her former clinic were allegedly being placed on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones prematurely and oftentimes without, or with coerced, parental consent."
