Huh .. I remember when that image came out, and also assumed it was the first image from visual spectrum/light based telescopes (or at least non-visible infrared). But no, it appears it's a construction based off of radiometric telescopes. It's not an accurate visible representation ... or it could be, but we can't really know unless interstellar travel becomes possible.
