Jews always have allowed conversions as long as they were undertaken in full seriousness, and at various times in the past they even proselytized (this isn't even getting into the matter of Christianity essentially starting as a minor Jewish sect before it decided to deliberately disavow that ancestry in favor of Gentile-baiting)
