here's my unpopular opinion of the day: #selfhosting is cool and you should do it, but if you're not willing to learn and you're not actually *self*-hosting, you should not be a user of smaller, "edgier" communities for anything important. this is especially true if you're politically targeted. finding a community of like-minded people is what the internet is about, but that doesn't mean that community should put all their sensitive data in the same pile with one burned out sysadmin to guard it.
