Some cities have improved their traffic congestion, some made it a lot worse. Some have no-smoking rules in public spaces, some don't. Some have gone almost fully electric and quiet in traffic, some have not. Some demolished their last tram lines, some rebuilt the tramlines they destroyed in the 60s and 70s. Some cities were full of soot or smog in the 70s, others were not.
If I could think of one ubiquitous thing in all cities, that would probably be all the smartphones replacing all the newspapers.
