@abner @Starprophet1 @haberdasher there's totalitarian tendencies here but they tend to be kind of balance against eachother in some contexts

for example: the provinces do not have access to the secret police,

but the federal government doesn't control spending at the provincial level [though there are some political struggles there] - so the province of saskatchewan can just give money away to foreign corporations/their buddies pretty much brazenly.

we have some degree of freedom of expression but we also have an internet censorship system

there are threats to our freedoms like anywhere else, and some of them have gotten worse with time but i'm also not in jail so there's that.
