I'm also not shocked. I've worked fast food before and I've seen the difference between overworked wagies and staff who just don't give a shit about the job/customers, saying "if you wanted so and so you shouldn't have gone to McDonald's" loudly over the mumble rap speaker in the background as complaints rolled in. Then there's the whole issue of franchise owners never fixing their machines, either to be cheap or because they don't have money aside to do so. Part of why ice cream machines are always broken is the employees aren't doing their job and have one airpod in their ears at all times.
Yesterday I saw some fat woman raging in a White Castle because they were genuinely understaffed to the point they could only serve drive thru properly without long wait times (they try to do personality quizzes), and the cherry on top was she ate the food in her car and could have gone in drive thru.
The thing is you don't kill the employees, you go online and file health board complaints. Nothing scares the shit out of a fast food restaurant like the local health board coming unannounced because they're always messy and they have no time to prepare unlike when a McDonald's corporate team announces their visit. It's legal and it'll get them fired or at least make them pay attention.
