the japanese extended cut laserdisc version of the film includes a lot of details that should be in the film (spoilers) - it has a shock jock rock and roll DJ character on the radio ala fallout, scenes showing who those surfer mutants are and what happens to them, a much more serious film intro with explanation of who these adult men are, why theyve got these kids, it has Rusty being shot right at the end caught by a stray bullet (which is why shes dead on the movie poster) and the whole journey from the two leads is somewhat more of a noir mystery where in the dvd cut they're on the hunt for their supposed fathers - but the laserdisc format cuts off a lot more of the original cinema format, totally removes the giant sewer rat monster to try and make the film more serious and the upload has problems with frame rate, terrible resolution and even worse loss of colour so its not a fun first watch unless you're a fan willing to put up with.
