The trend of calling them babygirl got popularized from the meme pic shown below. Where mob asks reigen (winner of the 2022 twink tournament, 2nd place in the 2022 tumblr sexy man tournament) why he gets called babygirl.

The comedy comes from reigen, an older masculine man, being treated in a feminine manner by his partner and getting called petnames usually reserved for women.

This has taken off to the point where fans will refer to their fave characters (usually those whose personality and behavior is antithetical to that of a babygirl) and call them babygirl.
