Before you say anything, I'm not attracted to prepubescent children.

I've read a few papers from the people who prosecute kiddy diddlers and what they found was that most turned out to not be in fact pedophiles (that is, not actually sexually attracted to pubescent minors) and were rather opportunistic sickos (from memory, only 20% of those convinced were determined to be pedophiles and 80% were determined to not be by psychologists).

From the reports and statics, as far as I can tell, there are many more pedophiles in the population than previously believed, but most don't diddle children, although an unmanaged (a state of attraction isn't possible to treat) state of pedophilia still isn't something to encourage (although it seems that there are some people who dedicate their time to ensuring that pedophiles can't get help - as if you are a pedophile, who hasn't done anything wrong and you ask for help, you will get a black mark on your criminal record, which seems to have the opposite result of as intended).
