@filburutto True. But, the thing with SIM registration is it's going to alienate people that requires anonymity. For example, whistleblowers and those with death threats.
Under a SIM registration law, no one can own an unregistered SIM. As well as, only the registered owner of the SIM should use it. So, asking someone to register for you is a criminal offense.
Then there are those the current sitting government brands as a threat for their government. They can easily track them. The President might be good, but their supporters, advisers, military, might take matters into their own hands out of "loyalty" (if we can call it that).
In the end, SIM registration is more problematic than a solution.
Also, politicians do claim it will solve spams and scams, and how it will not be used for tracking and datamining. It's their marketing to get the people to support it.
