@toiletpaper @animeirl you probably feel that way because you don’t speak chinese. we get mostly a clear picture of abrahamism in english, and other things like buddhism are cleaned off and presented in english as white people buddhism, where allegedly nobody ever says or does anything stupid. but you actually go there and loads of people have the same superstitions.
- most buddhists are into apocryphal scripture about people who never existed or said what is written
- you thought catholics were annoying, wait till you meet pure land buddhists. their shit never sells well at barnes and noble but they are the most numerous in the world.
- the most popular buddha isn’t the historical person, but a made up character named amitabha. most buddha statues are amitabha
- they think you can go to heaven or hell when you die. they have more detailed descriptions of hell than anybody else
- leadership does nasty things and nobody gets held accountable. you can be damned to hell for splitting a harmonious congregation
- perverted sex magick happens in vajrayana traditions. some of the chinese propaganda is probably correct.
- they are no strangers to theocracy or infiltrating governments
- sectarian quarreling that looked exactly the same as catholic and protestant conflicts. people were executed or exiled for starting the wrong bullshit
