Giving thought to what was the first movie I saw that let me relax from the constant sexism in #movies (I grew up in the 70s & 80s & early 90s).
I think it might have been the black & white version of Joan of Arc I saw on TV when I was a kid? Obviously there was sexism *in* the movie, but it treated her as the hero, main character, a real person.
After that, not sure. Maybe Ruby in Paradise. Maybe Double Happiness (1994), a lovely Canadian film with Sandra Oh in one of her first film roles.
