I don’t think it’s any worse than the kind of Apple ][ and UNIX docs I grew up with. If anything, it’s a bit better: more often inclined to provide large-scale context and usable recipes.
I do wish that more doc authors had hands-on teaching experience. Docs and teaching both are all about meeting people where they’re at, and both doc authors and we teachers too often don’t know where people really •are• at.
