@theropologist WW2 was massively unpopular in the beginning, and even once the war was underway and Americans felt obligated to support the effort, it still wasn't an ideological thing. In fact most Americans probably hated the Japanese more than the Germans.
Also, most pre-boomer Americans were effectively "nazi" by modern standards.
