They likely assimilated and intermarried with other Christians in the surrounding areas. The rejection of Christ, Logos incarnate, was a filter that concentrated the worst aspects of "jewishness" in those who chose to stay. It doesn't make them beyond redemption even still, but they're a stubborn pain in the ass people who deserve 10x the criticism they get for their protection of their worst members.
