It's not like these are the only things people on the other side talk about — I think it's more or less the same: marginal hobbies and retro computer stuff.
And it's not like you blindly copy everything you see online as a teenager — I'm pretty sure that my parents won't approve all of the people I've been interacting online with even at that time.
Modern social media is more addictive, but it might also get boring real fast. One might think that at the time I'd only be downloading pornography — but it wasn't the case at all, I've been downloading newer builds of NetHack, reading about my favourite games and hanging out with nerdy people on IRC — pretty much what Fedizens of today do.
I think people with conservative mindset today tend to overstate the dangers of Internet when it comes to younger people. True — you shouldn't hang out on social media days on end, but it's also true for adults — they get addicted to this sort of thing too, and teenagers aren't dumb — they can often decide for themselves 🤷
When hanging out on social media is the only leisure you can afford, I think that there is a much bigger problem here and it's not just that Internet exists.
