In the story I’m writing,

I chose the speculative fiction genre so I could explore what happens

when a woman lives life without the pressure of putting falling in love or having children at her center of her life.

I was able to live that way because I thought I’d die of the cancer I have before I turned 40.

However I didn’t mention this to anyone in my immigrant family, which resulted in endless dark comedy for me.
