This is one of my largest fears about trans community's trauma as a group.
That it's incredibly easy to cause widespread panic with misinformation or conjecture.
Every sign that something could be bad is taken as certainty and then broadcast out over social media. Trying to put that terror back in the genie bottle is almost impossible. You cannot just stop a trauma spiral even with clear facts once its started.
Our community trauma means we are the walking definition of "perfect is the enemy of good" or perhaps "purity is the enemy of progress".
Part of the panic over this bill is because the Brighton MP met with anti-trans campaign groups to hear their concerns. Therefore the purity test means they must be working with them. Never mind the anti-trans groups are now all saying they are fully against the bill while the MP is able to state clearly "well i gave you all opportunity to air your objections and attempted to find a common ground" (seems likely he removed the term gender identity and replaced it with transgender identity which only infuriated them more).
