I think it's great that they are finally changing the default for new mastodon servers away from open registration, but I also know that people (mostly women, many of whom were harrassed out of these conversations or even clean off the fediverse) have been advocating for it for years.

I don't say this as a gotcha, but because people like Ginny and Marcia deserve credit, and because we could learn from this experience not to ignore voices like theirs for so long before getting it right.
