Not an original thought, but it continues to baffle me that at my age my parents were on their way to their third kid with a five-bedroom house and two relatively new cars on (mostly) just the income from an early-career staff member in a theater department at a small public university in north dakota
And now three decades later I'm an early-career employee of one of the top astronomy departments in the world and just proud of myself for affording an apartment barely large enough to keep my cats from getting anxious
