So, part of the argument about Joe Biden's age is that he's the only Democrat who can beat Donald Trump.

I'm not sure that's true. And it definitely didn't *have* to be true. There was a path in which Biden and the party could have prepared a successor and a coalition to take over for the 2024 election. I don't know how that could have happened, but I believe it was possible.

But it didn't happen, and now we're here. It's OK to pause for a sigh before getting on with it.
