Kolam, which means “form”, is a floor drawing made from coloured flour, and is used for ornamental or ceremonial design made everyday by Tamilian families outside their homes. It is a sign of invitation to welcome all deities into the home, not the least of whom is Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity and wealth.
