Almost no technology is inevitable or has any sort of linear or geometric progression of improvement.
Computers are the big exception in that regard--and there's strong indications that even they no longer follow Moore's law (doubling of transistors every 2 years) or soon won't be (even Moore himself was saying this, he died last year).
And this just makes them faster and store more information; there's no fundamental difference between a 50-year old 6502 CPU and Apple M3 from today.
