Tipa@fooderick @shalien @me I was big into Google Plus for years. Say what you will, but i owned my data. When it closed down, I merged all my G+ posts into my blog, so it's all still around. And I pay for my blog hosting, so I own everything there.
Mastodon's federated implementation is, like you say, a drawback toward having access to your data. I can't just ask for a ZIP of all my Masto posts.
