I love living in the UK where I regularly find myself saying, without enthusiasm, “yay, the House of Lords has prevented the latest piece of unbridled fascism”
The HoL is the most structurally small-c-conservative part of the political process, filled with the grandees of previous administrations (plus Boris’s hairdresser), which already gives it a solidly Tory tilt before you consider the age and establishment careers of its membership.
And it keeps outflanking the government to the left.
