@Arthur_500 Because the discussion was about the root cause of the civil war. You say it wasn't at its core about slavery, that that's just a term.that zombies parrot back at you, but you haven't offered any alternative answer except handwaving and misdirection.
If you ask a racist they will say nothing is racist, it's just the natural order of things, or history, or free enterprise, or decency, or common sense.
I assume it was possible for freed men to own slaves of their own and I assume some did. Did that make it right? No. Was it common? No. Does it make the cause for secession not be about slavery when secessionists said it was about slaving states having a problem with abolitionists coming to power? No. So, is it relevant? Not really.
Where there racists in the north? Yes, absolutely. Does that make the civil war not about slaving states and abolitionism? No. Does it make abolitionism not about slavery? No.
