Oh, and if it is Philippine English that they are teaching.
My cousin in the US is teaching his kids to speak Tagalog (since it was still mainly Tagalog when they left the Philippines). His wife is European-American, who herself is learning Tagalog from him.
They're planning to come here this year just so their kids get more training in Tagalog. Funnily, their “second cousins” speak to them in English. Hahaha.
Anyway. I think most parents are still not aware that being bilingual and multilingual is actually beneficial. It makes sense in a way, since we don't notice we're benefitting from being bi/multilingual.
