When I visited Tokyo in 2018, I had to replace the keyboard for my T460s, which had my alma mater's seal etched into it. There's a special ThinkPad store there, but they didn't have any English keyboards. They only had a Japanese one. I don't speak Japanese, but I bought it anyway and paid them to install it. It felt like I had a piece of exotic equipment. It was awesome. I kept that laptop for years afterward, until it completely died on me.
One detail that always stuck out to me is just how tiny the space bar is on Japanese keyboards. Took me some time to get used to. Never figured out why. Maybe spaces are just not very useful in the Japanese language.
