They are amazing QA tools. They record the number of bolts driven per assembly per station. They log the exact torque of every bolt. They make sure everything is built as it should be. No loose bolts (737MAX cough cough), no missing bolts.
And down the road if issues are found the manufacturer can look at logs and see if the spec for torque needs to be adjusted (i.e. the VINs failing are on the high or low side of the spec).
