    Now, after moving the wp-cron.php tasks from running as default, to scheduling them in the backend (cPanel), the site throws up a database error now for a minute or so instead of... just not loading at all.

    Any advice welcome.

      @annika@xoxo.zone It has indeed. I think the thing is that when I post a link to my blog, then it tries to fetch the preview for 100s of Mastodon servers. And then, every time they did that, it was triggering wp-cron.php So the solution (maybe not?) was to disable wp-cron.php from running with every hit to the site, which is default behaviour, and just have it run once every 30 mins. I mean, when I tested just then, the site still went down for a hot second... but a lot less longer than it did before.
