The doctrine of "judicial review" was made out of whole cloth. John Marshall, appointed by his friend and political ally Adams just made that power up to thwart Jefferson after he pulled the presidency out from under Adams.

Now instead of a neutral court to hear cases of original jurisdiction dispassionately, we have a 9-seat super-senate with lifetime tenure that gets to decide what the **real** laws are after our elected reps finish playing at legislating 🤦♀️
