The series is hard magical SF politics. That is, there's a nigh-magical aspect to it, and everything else falls out from that in a logical and consistent fashion. And it's politics because that's what it's *really* about -- with each book largely having a detective framing story.

I love the author and I love these books. I've given out more copies of this author's books than any other author. And I've given out *lots* of books. So that's impressive.
