The tree has, at some time, fallen to the right, its root plate lifted up  leaving a shallow hollow that has since filled with water and created a pool. Still the tree grows, its mossy trunk half lying on the uneven ground then twisting skywards with knotted, thorny branches, now winter-bare. Tall spiky, grasses grow at the base, around the edge of the pool and where the ground is boggy. Moorland rises up behind the tree to a grey granite tor on the skyline. The slopes covered in rough brownish green grass and scattered gorse bushes.
