Every so often the question arises whether #OpenSource is a viable business model, and every time I struggle more to find examples as the likes of RedHat and Hashicorp stray further from it. But it finally clicked for me that open source is not a business model, but a social contract. In terms of economics it fits less into capitalism and more into socialism, where the goal is not profitability but to promote a healthy ecosystem that can support the smaller players.
