I’m so tired of autism being talked about like a disease

Autism isn’t necessarily a disability. Yes, there are people with autism who struggle a lot with many things directly because of it and I’m not trying to undermine their struggles. But there are also a lot of people with autism who don’t have any problems because of it, well other than the ones created by society. It’s called neurodivergence and not neurodeficiency for a reason. It’s when the brain develops in a different way than typical, not a wrong way. A lot of the struggles come from the bigotry and how this society wasn’t built in a welcoming way for the atypical, in some ways intentionally. And people thinking it’s an illness because that’s what they have been told and simply don’t know the truth is making the problem worse
