Yes, but it's very low compared to Japan. It's still between $3 and $5 per gallon, 3.7 liters per gallon, so $0.81 to $1.35 per liter. (California is a special case; we have different standards for gasoline than the rest of the country, so we have to have our own refineries, and gas usage has gone up since the 1970s but we have not built more refineries, so the price of gas is artificially inflated here, and since all of the refineries are operating over 100% capacity, if one of them goes down for a day, gas price for the whole state doubles. Anyway, gas in this place is $4-$6/gallon.)
