Possibly my favorite thing about the fediverse, is that I can post "hey, can someone please explain to me what the problem is about (thing a lot of people on the internet have strong opinions about)? Because from an outside perspective it just kinda seems like (profoundly ignorant view on said thing)"

And instead of the usual "reeee I'm gonna call you a boatload of slurs while applying fifty different stereotypes about the type of people who don't have a problem with the thing to you, hate hate hate yell yell yell"

I get "here's a thorough, if not totally comprehensive, list of clearly-explained reasons why that thing is bad and why a bunch of people, myself included, don't like it"

It's not an experience I have with strangers anywhere else on the internet. I'm glad I can have that here. It's very constructive.
