    I think https://void.rehab/notes/9ndzk51ttlu6oovn is fascinating because it's both obviously a really bad idea, and something Fedi has no immune system against.

    I get the feeling that Fedi hasn't had to face anyone bright and malicious. Despite some crypto, rate-limiting etc. we're still probably at pre-Morris-worm levels of naïvety.

      emmaverse was a fake fedi instance that would add 100-1000 posts to your instance's database whenever you resolved a thread from it. i made it while experimenting with activitypub because i thought it was a novel concept. it was not a good idea, and i should not have made it. i am sorry. emmaverse is dead now, and it will never come back. again, if any instance wants help getting rid of the emmaverse posts in their database, they can contact me on my matrix, `@mia:void.rehab` as for analysis on this incident, i will leave it to others, but there was no malicious intent involved and i have received no reports of instance downtime due to emmaverse
